Day 24 Fort MacLeod to Calgary to Banff Monday 11th May 2015

Blasted out of Fort MacLeod on our way to Calgary. Both us us nervous about the re-entry to Calgary. Skipped brekky to ensure an early getaway.

Decided en-route we would check in at the Greyhound station first and leave our bags. Hmmmm that was more fraught than imagined. Getting there was the easy part – only one wrong turn when the direction said West but the Avenue we wanted was Nth East so navigator (me) thought we should go the other direction – wrong.

Once at the Greyhound station discovered the tickets I thought I had booked and paid for online had not gone through. New tickets purchased and new learning = check confirmation of online purchases!

Then came a minor theatrical show for the waiting passengers as we tried to store our bags in the coin lockers. Not realising a small sign above said n power not working – this was after plugging $5 in and a few mild disagreements!

With tickets purchased and bags stored we headed for the Budget depot. Another very friendly person to check the car back in, great service.

Without cumbersome bags we set off to get brekky and then a short wander around downtown. Discovered the Skywalk 15+ which on our street map was a mass of blue lines with blocks coloured in every so often, looking around we discovered they are walkways through buildings and flyovers throughout the town named for the feet above ground.

Tried a short piece of the Skywalk – amazing – and then got worried we would get too lost so came back down to the ground. Walked to the main shopping area for a quick look then returned to Greyhound terminal.

blogFenlands2Greyhound to Banff and after checking in at hotel had a lovely walk – the Fenland trail.

Highlights other than the pretty walk were 2 Canadian geese and little goslings

and an Elk grazing beside the road as we came out of the walk.

Delicious Tapas style dinner at ‘Block’. Chris fell head over heels in love with their Salmon cakes.
