Regents Canal
Day 40 March 26th 2017

Holly arrived early and we hired “Boris Bikes” named after that famous Brexit plonker. These bikes were planned by others before but were put in place when he was Mayor.

Once we worked out how to hire them we peddled off through Victoria Park along the Regent canal with its narrow boats. We came to the View Tube – a structure built so people could peer in on the Olympic stadium being built. Now house the restaurant Holly works at.“Common Greenway”.

After brekky we decided to walk rather than cycle and meandered back past the Olympic stadium along the canal, Victoria Park and villages till we reached Hackney. As we headed back to our apartment we took a slight divertion to the Portuguese Affair where we had  coffee and an amazing Portuguese tart before heading home.

In the afternoon not sure of what we wanted to do we tried to rehire bikes but could not work out the system so instead followed the streams of people crossing Hackney Road and as we went through a small park we discovered the secret of the hoardes – Columbia Street Flower market about 5 minutes from our door. The flower market was packed as it was Mothers Day. It was lots of fun with many flower sellers calling their wares with broad cockney accents goading passersby into buying flowers – we were tempted.  The day was a really nice example of the many ‘villages’ that make up London.
