Day 177 to 180 10th to 12th August

After a bus ride across the causeway we arrived on Saaremaa. The largest of more than 2,000 islands in Estonia. Great little apartment in an old house. Wonderful Op Shop. Lots of eateries and art and craft. What’s not to like.
A relaxing couple of days was spent in Saaremaa. For Chris there was a birthday on the road. A day of sunshine in Saaremaa, accomanpied by oysters and wine.

Kuressaare Castle sits in the centre of Saaremaa island, surrounding by Lossipark – the castle grounds and several historic buildings including a windmill. It also houses a much photographed large villa with a multi-storeyed wooden entrances and decoration as often illustrated in Hansel and Gretel’s cottage.

The Kaali crater was described on my favourite site for the obsure – Atlas Obscura. Alas we did not make it this time
