Days 62-63 12-13 June

So leaving Darley Dale we head through the Peak District to Leeds. My trusty navigator ensured that we arrived in good time at the lovely Potty Cottage to see Miriam and Nick.We also met Val for the first time a close family friend of Nick’s.

The name “Potty Cottage” comes from the award winning garden surrounding the property which features all kinds of characters fashioned from-You guessed it-garden pots.Val and Nick’s grandmother created the garden and used it to raise money for a local charity.Over the time they have had it they have raised more than twelve thousand pounds by open days. They also have a box at the front of the garden where people continue to donate as they walk past.

We had a delicious Italian lunch at the renovated railway station house and afterwards headed to “The Podger”,Nick’s local. We were delighted to catch up with Nick’s friends who had become our friends on their various trips to Australia. The famous Parker who joined us at Christmas in 2016 and the delightful Scott and Grace who had joined us in 2017, also at Christmas. We were also pleased to meet Matt,Nick’s brother and John (Capa). All in all a lovely night with lots of laughs.Leaving everybody with the commitment that we would see them at Christmas back in Leeds.

Next day after leaving Val’s wonderful hospitality the four of us headed for York.We left the car and wandered around the York Minster area and had a delightful high tea at Betty’s.This is a famous York institution and was full of visitors having fish and chips(being ordered with the help of photos on smart phones) with their delicate sandwiches at three in the afternoon. The staff were a little confounded by this but rose to the occasion.

We then repaired to a brewery for a few pints-good beer to get ready to go out again. We had dinner at the lovely Delrio’s- what  a fabulous outstanding service and I can recommend the polpettes as some of the best I have had.

Next morning we chatted with Nick and Miro before saying goodbye-knowing that we would seem them at the end of the year.
